Spam is a common expression used for junk email or un-solicited advertisements sent to you through your email account. The term was an analogy for the meat-in-a-can product. When you opened a can of Spam, you didn't get what you thought your were getting instead you got something pretending to be meat.
Today you will probably receive more junk email then real email in your day-to-day online activities. Many of these may have one title and then have something completely different inside. While we oppose the sending of junk email there is really no way to stop it entirely. You can set up junk email filters in almost every email program that exists today. But even then some "real" email may be filtered into your junk folder by accident.
The best way to combat junk email is do not purchase anything from one, ever. Even if you find something you really want in a junk email, try to browse the internet and purchase it from some other source. The reason why so many people are sending junk emails is because they get sales. If everyone stops buying from them they will indeed go away.
We do not allow any of our accounts to be used to send junk emails. If you do send un-solicited emails out through your email program and it is using your domain name SMTP server (outbound) address (mail.your_domain_name.com) then we will get complaints of abuse not only back to your server but also to ours, for providing you with the Internet server to send them. This can put our connection to the internet in jeopardy from the companies that provide it to us, as well as put your own internet provider in a position to close your account and suspend your services at your local level.
